Man Found Guilty in Marion Woman's Slaying

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - A man charged with the strangulation and beating death of a Marion woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Christopher J. Murray pleaded guilty to the June 18 slaying of 41-year-old Mary McBride and asked to be sentenced immediately.

Murray was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

McBride's body was found near the Cedar River Trail in Cedar Rapids on July 4.

Murray told investigators he strangled McBridge with a belt and pounded her head against railroad tracks until she was dead.
