Today I continued covering the Kyle Marin murder trial by talking to the father of one of the victims. Katrina Hill was killed along with her cousin Molly Edmondson back in 2006. Raymond Hill and the rest of the family didn't really want to talk with the media after the guilty verdict. As a reporter, it's hard to not go up to anyone and ask them a question, basically that's what we do for a living. But in certain situations we hold back. As a group, the media did that with this trial. After the verdict, the family said in a statement that they appreciated it. Hours later, as I was standing outside the courhouse getting ready for a live shot, Mr. Hill came up to me, and said we appreciated how professional and respectful we as media were. I appreciated that. I told him I wanted to do a story on the Survivors Program, and he said he would do anything for them. Now, he is. The program runs on grants, and their budget is tight. Mr. Hill said after what they did for him, they shouldn't have to fight for funding. I explain what the program is more in my story that ran tonight. This isn't the first murder trial I've covered, but it is the first trial I covered where I needed to talk to someone about it afterwards. The next event in this trial is Kyle Marin's sentencing. That's scheduled for November 21, 2007. That's the day before Thanksgiving. Expect to hear more about the trial on that day and the day before it.
