Hardacre Renovation Estimated at More Than $1 Million

TIPTON, Iowa — Supporters raised more than $100,000 to buy Tipton’s Hardacre Theater, but now need to raise more than a million to renovate it.

The Hardacre Theater Preservation Association said it will cost between $1.5 million and $2 million to remodel the nearly 100-year-old movie theater.

The facility’s HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems all have to be replaced. Plus, the theater needs aesthetic upgrades and a new digital projector. Officials hope money will come through grants, private donations and their various fund raisers.

“We’ve got a deadline of August 13th, 2016. That date is important to us as a board because that is the day of the grand opening of the Hardacre Theater 100 years ago,” said the association’s president, Greg Brown.

Brown said besides saving a historical building, he expected restoring the theater would boost business downtown.

Those who want to help are asked to check out the association’s website.
