CHICAGO, Illinois - Hawks fans have flocked to the Windy Cindy in droves in anticipation of Saturday's season opener against the University of Northern Illinois at Soldier Field.

The University of Iowa estimates that at least 25,000 Hawkeye fans will attend the game this weekend. Steve Roe, Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Iowa, called the estimate "conservative." The University sold all 16,500 tickets they requested ahead of the game, Roe said.

On Friday, fans from across the state made their presence noticed by flying flags and flaunting car stickers en route to Chicago via Interstate 80.

"It seems like there are a lot of Iowa fans on the road right now, normally for a Friday you wouldn't think the interstate would be this busy, lot of (Hawkeye) plates and stickers in the windows," said Joe Guidicessi, a Hawkeye fan from central Iowa. "Chicago is a good place to spend a weekend, and we're excited to see the game."

Many fans took the day off work and got to the city early to catch a Cubs game for Hawkeye Day at Wrigley Field. Men's Head Basketball Coach Fran McCaffery threw out the first pitch.
