Fire Damages Several Buildings in Downtown West Union

WEST UNION, Iowa - Fire destroyed two businesses in West Union Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the Unionland Feed & Supply Store, located at the intersection of East Elm & South Walnurt Streets, at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials said the fire spread to an adjacent business, the Top Hat Tavern. Both buildings were knocked down to help to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures.

Several nearby buildings were evacuated. Officials said no one was injured in the fire.

An investigation into the cause is underway.
