Officials Hope to Reopen Dubuque Street Next Week
By Mark Carlson, Reporter
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City officials say they're hoping to have Dubuque Street along the Iowa River back open by next week.
"That's our goal if everything holds," said Rick Fosse, director of Iowa City's public works department.
Fosse said city crews will first need to inspect the road for any significant damage caused by flooding.
"If there is anything that needs to be fixed it could slow things down," he said.
The US Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake will reduce the outflow into the Iowa River on Friday if current forecasts hold. That will drop the river and start exposing the pavement, Fosse said.
Dubuque Street between Foster and Park Roads has been closed for two weeks.
