JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa - Officials in Johnson County have ordered a mandatory evacuation for two neighborhoods in rural Johnson County.

Here's the press releases from Johnson County Emergency Management:

A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for residents in the Riverview Estates neighborhood in rural Johnson County off of Stewart Rd. NE and the Izaak Walton League area near Oakcrest Hill Rd. SE due to high waters of the Iowa River. The neighborhood of less than 20 homes each will receive a Code Red Alert with the following message:

ATTENTION, THIS AREA IS UNDER A MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER. YOU HAVE NO MORE THAN 4 HOURS TO LEAVE THE AREA AND TAKE YOUR PETS WITH YOU. AFTER THAT ALL SERVICES TO THE AREA WILL BE DISCONTINUED AND THE MANDATORY EVAC WILL BE CONSIDERED IN PLACE.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the order. Residents displaced can receive assistance by contacting the United Way of Johnson County Disaster Services or by communicating with the Johnson County Emergency Operations Center.

The United Way disaster call center is available for those in need of flood-related information or assistance, including requesting volunteer assistance. The disaster call center is available 8am-8pm at 319-337-8657. For questions after-hours, United Way 2-1-1 is available 24/7. United Way 2-1-1 is a regional health and human service information and referral line, which can be reached by dialing 2-1-1 or 1-866-469-2211.

Utilities to the Riverview Estates neighborhood have been shut off.

In addition to Riverview Estates and the Izaak Walton League area, the Johnson County Sheriff’s office has begun contacting residents in low-lying areas, asking them to voluntarily evacuate. The Johnson County Board of Supervisors met this afternoon at 2 pm at the Johnson County Administration Building and passed a resolution proclaiming a civil emergency and authorizing the board chairperson to issue orders of mandatory evacuation.
