Despite Flood Preps, Much of New Bohemia Open for Business
By Forrest Saunders, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Flooding concerns have already shuttered a few businesses in New Bohemia, like NewBo Books and the NewBo City Market, across the street.
But behind the wall of sandbags volunteers set up Thursday, a lot of NewBo is still open for business.
Parlor City Pub and Eatery certainly looks closed from the road with its doors and windows barricaded by sand and plastic. Managers surmise that might be why they've seen a dip in business, recently.
They want people to know their 56 beers are still on tap, and food is hot and ready for customers."We are open as long as we are safely able to be here, while meeting all the health code regulations," said manager, Stephanie Jelinek.
Chef Brian Jones, at the Brewed Café, says they're open too. But he thinks his coffee house might not stay that way through the weekend. He's watching the weather closely and says he's thinking Saturday will be his last day for business. "As it stands right now, we're going to be open for lunch tomorrow, with the intentions of breaking down for dinner," said Jones.
