City of Cedar Rapids Reopens Edgewood Road Bridge
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The city of Cedar Rapids reopened the northbound traffic lanes of Edgewood Road bridge Sunday afternoon. The Cedar River water level, once at 17.66 feet, has receded to a safer state. Officials expect a southbound lane to open soon.
The river at Cedar Rapids was high enough to send a little water on to a low point of Edgewood Road NW at Ellis Boulevard NW Saturday. Southbound lanes of Edgewood Road NW were closed, while city officials were monitoring the spot as river water was projected to rise another foot.
The road closed Saturday afternoon, along with the Edgewood Road bridge. The road historically has closed when the river reaches 17.9 feet, Hansen said.
