High water and fast currents contributed to a barge accident on the Mississippi River at Dubuque. Several barges broke free and hit the bridge, causing DOT to close the bridge. After an inspection, officials found the damage to be minimal and the bridge was reopened. Many more bridges would be closed across eastern Iowa as the Flood of 2008 took hold.
