WAVERLY Flood Info & Emergency Housing At - Wartburg College

By Danielle Plogmann

WAVERLY, Iowa — The City of Waverly has enlisted the Center for Community Engagement at Wartburg College to act as the clearinghouse for emergency needs that have arisen following the devastating flooding of the past week.

The CCE will have primary responsibility for collecting information about community needs in regard to clean-up and shelter and matching those needs with volunteers and available housing.

As the clearinghouse, the CCE will receive requests for assistance, while soliciting volunteers and then making the appropriate matches whenever possible.

In addition, the CCE also will receive residents’ requests for short-term housing that would be made available once the Red Cross shelter at the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness has closed. Residents and community organizations able to offer short-term housing are urged to contact the CCE so that arrangements can be made to assist those displaced by the flood.

The Wartburg College Cabinet today affirmed that the college is committed to providing emergency housing after the Red Cross shelter at The W has closed with CCE acting as the clearinghouse.

The CCE can be contacted at 352-8701. It will be open between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
