FEMA Grants Declarations to Three More Iowa Counties

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - The Federal Emergency Management Agency has added Lucas, Appanoose, and Monroe counties to the list of Iowa counties granted a presidential disaster declaration.

Eighty counties across the state have been approved for public assistance because of severe storms, flooding and tornadoes. Funds from public assistance funds pay for debris removal, emergency services and to repair or replace damaged public facilities.

The number of Iowa counties approved for individual assistance stands at 63. That program allows eligible homeowners, renters, business owners and nonprofit organizations to recover from storm damage.
