From St. Luke's Hospital:
--Linn County Public Health recommends one tetanus shot every ten years.
--Individuals with minor injuries (cuts, slashes, scrapes) can have a tetanus booster if it has been more than five years since their last tetanus shot.
--Individuals with major injuries need to see their doctor.
Also please note......Hepatitis A is not associated with floods. Vaccination for hepatitis A is NOT recommnended.

Tetanus is a serious disease associated with people exposed to contaminated flood waters and who may have open cuts or wounds. It is recommended that people receive a tetanus vaccination or booster shot at least every five years. People who have been exposed to flood waters in the Linn County area and are unsure of their last tetanus immunization or booster shot are advised to seek one out. If you have been vaccinated in the past five years receiving an additional vaccine could cause painful complications so if you know you have had a vaccination within that time do not seek one out at this time. Additionally, Hepatitis A is not associated with flooding situations. Immunization for Hepatitis A is not needed at this time.
To receive a tetanus vaccine contact your healthcare provider to schedule a time or report to one of two tetanus vaccination clinics in the Cedar Rapids area where the vaccines will be offered for free. The clinic times and locations are listed below:

The clinics will be open at the following times:
Friday, June 13th 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday, June 14th 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Sunday, June 14th 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
