Angel Flight Central stands ready to provide free air transportation
Cedar Rapids, Iowa. – Over a thousand volunteer pilots throughout the Midwest are poised to donate their time, talents, and aircraft expenses to fly qualified passengers to alternate locations through Angel Flight Central, Inc. (AFC). With local hospitals and shelters filling up and evacuees becoming more desperate with each passing day, Angel Flight can provide temporary relocation to other cities and states, completely free of charge. Individuals and families requesting an Angel Flight should call our toll free Mission hotline at 1-877-621-7177 or email request@angelflightcentral.org
AFC acts as the matchmaker between needs and resources, and last year received over 5,000 requests for help. Currently, an Angel Flight mission takes place an average of every 30 minutes helping people facing all sorts of challenges from cancer to rare “one-of-a-kind” diseases and natural disasters such as the flood of 2008.
AFC is one of seven autonomous members of Air Charity Network, our nation’s largest public benefit flying organization representing approximately 90% of charitable non-emergency medical, compassion, and community service flights in the United States. This major charitable aviation network serves rural and urban communities alike by utilizing small general aviation airports and recruiting volunteer general aviation pilots along with other donated resources.

Angel Flight Central
Angel Flight Central, Inc. (AFC) is one of seven member organizations of Air Charity Network, the largest charitable air transportation organization in the world. AFC, a progressive, volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport. Since its inception in 1995, AFC has flown nearly 5 million charitable miles and helped thousands of families access specialized medical care or for other compassionate reasons.
Mission Statement
Angel Flight Central’s mission is to serve people in need by arranging charitable flights for access to health care, and for other humanitarian purposes.
Volunteer Pilots and Ground Crew
AFC volunteer pilots donate their time, aircraft and flight expenses to the program. Pilots must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and agree in writing to comply with the Federal Aviation Regulations. Currently, there are approximately 1,000 volunteer pilots located throughout the Midwest. Over 300 other volunteers help coordinate flights, screen applicants, promote AFC among passengers, pilots and donors, and provide administrative support.
Passengers
AFC helps hundreds of children and adults with different challenges, conditions and needs. AFC passengers must be outpatients, ambulatory and sit upright in a standard aircraft seat. Financial need, as well as a legitimate reason to request long-distance air transportation, is also necessary. Compassion, community service and disaster response missions are also arranged in addition to flights for access to healthcare.
Primary Areas of Service
AFC primarily coordinates flights to, through and from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. Nationwide service is available through Air Charity Network, and two or more pilots may be matched with passengers needing long distance flights.
Funding/Donations
AFC is entirely funded through charitable donations from individuals, foundations, corporations and other interested groups. For every $1 donated, AFC secures approximately $3 in free transportation and 95% of that dollar goes directly towards program services.
