Iowa City Lifts All Evacuation Orders, Curfews

By Becky Ogann

IOWA CITY (AP) - While some flood-damaged homes and businesses in Iowa City may still be unsafe, officials have decided to lift all evacuations and curfews there.

A civil emergency order also was withdrawn. It had allowed Mayor Regenia Bailey to order mandatory evacuations and take other actions during the widespread flooding earlier this month in the eastern Iowa city.

City officials say all structures in flood areas must undergo evaluations before owners can re-enter.

They warn of hazards including debris and unstable ground.
