CEDAR RAPIDS - The building that houses the Cedar Rapids City Hall sits on Mays Island, right in the middle of the Cedar River. And now we can give you the first look at the damage the flood did to the center of city government. Click here to see all 606 photos.

On Monday, the city sent us 606 pictures of the mess inside Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which houses city hall.

In all, 50 city buildings were damaged. City Hall was one of the most heavily damaged, with flood waters filling the basement, the mezzanine and creeping 12 inches into the first floor. Hundreds of wooden chairs and 5,000 bags of debris have been removed from the basement. City contractors are continuing to remove sludge from the basement, clean and sanitize the mezzanine level and vacuum and clean the first floor.

Last week, workers removed wet records from the first flood and took them to a dry freezing facility to try to preserve them.
