CEDAR RAPIDS - While some people are in the process of cleaning up their homes, many families are still waiting for the OK.
Some families in the Time Check neighbor hood on Ellis Street just got access to their homes Wednesday. But just up the road is still relatively deserted. Many of those homes have serious structural damage as flood waters filled entire first floors of homes.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held to pass along information to Time Check residents. Hundreds of people gathered at Jefferson High school to find out what's next. FEMA, SBA and Cedar Rapids Police listed disaster relief center locations and help line numbers, they also answered questions from concerned residents.
Officials also gave helpful tips to avoid scam artists and reminders about color coded placards signifying the condition and safety of homes. Families were grateful for information and clear answers, after days of confusion.
"I think that the city, the National Guard the Police everything has just been so unbelievably helpful and we really appreciate that," said Chelsey Kayse, Time Check resident.
FEMA representatives at the meeting did throw around some numbers to give people an idea or how much they can help financially.
Including money for temporary housing, repairs, clothing and medical devices, FEMA can offer roughly $28,000 dollars per family.
