IMU Bookstore Will be Open for School Year, in New Location

By Becky Ogann

IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa Bookstore is getting ready for its busy season, but in a new location.

Flood damage to the Iowa Memorial Union forced the bookstore to move to the Old Capitol Town Center.

Some of the usual items are not available because the temporary space is one-third the size of the IMU location. Textbooks are receiving top priority.

"When we moved up to this location we're dealing with a different set of shelving, different parameters. Everything was by a guess as to how what we had there translates over to here," said Richard Shannon, UI Bookstore General Manager.

On the first three days of classes the bookstore expects to have more than 6,000 transactions.

No timetable has been set for a return to the IMU.
