Marengo Cleans Up After Flooding

By: Dave Franzman, Reporter

By Claire Kellett

MARENGO - All that heavy rain yesterday left a big mess behind in parts of Eastern Iowa. Some suggest the soggiest spots were towns along the Iowa River.

Unofficial rain gauges in Marengo topped out at ten inches Friday. The town was even cut off for hours as flash flooding swamped some main roads. A day later, it's improved to the point you could call it a regular-sized mess. Only a few of Marengo's streets remain under water in spots, but people are still pumping out water from basements.

The emergency management director did say rescuers had to help some people with boats last night to get them out of the way of the water. Some farmers nearby also lost livestock.
