At the current time Cedar County Emergency Management is asking for anyone wanting to help with the flood relief efforts to report to the old Edler Implement building in Tipton for help with sandbagging. We are also in the need of donations of blankets, pillows, cots, bottled water, and food. Please take these donations to the Calvary Four Square Church on the North side of Tipton.
Due to substantial flooding, Cedar County Emergency Management is calling for a voluntary evacuation. It is being strongly recommended that all land owners and residents of areas along the Cedar River and it's tributaries evacuate immediately. A Red Cross shelter will be opened at Calvary Foursquare Church at 1100 Hwy 38, Tipton, IA.
Prior to leaving your residence, it is recommended that you shut off and disconnect your LP tank. If you have a private well, secure it and turn off the power to the well. Please bring any medications and personal items you will need with you. Remember to bring formula, diapers, and any other needs for children. Prior to leaving your home, please tie a white towel or sheet to your door so emergency personnel are aware that the home has been evacuated.
If you do not have a reason to be in the area, these areas should be avoided. It is strongly advised to stay out of and off of the flood waters.
If you are in need of sandbags, you may contanct the Cedar County Law Center at 563-886-2121 or they may be picked up at the Cedar County Law Center at 711 East South Street
