UI Restores Thousands of Music Records to Czech Museum
IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa Libraries Preservation Department spent a year and a half restoring 80 years worth of music.
And it isn't done yet.
The University returned 1,500 phonographic records to the National Czech and Slovak Museum in Cedar Rapids Friday.
The preservation department rescued 5,000 records that last year's flood damaged at the museum.
Employees had to keep the records wet while moving them so they wouldn't stick together, causing even more damage.
"Are we looking forward to 78s I'm not sure but its always great to you know give back," said Nancy Kraft, UI Library Preservation.
Preservation specialists say it will take about a year to finish restoring the entire collection.
