Behind the Scenes: Working Through the Flood of 2008

By Becky Ogann

CEDAR RAPIDS - KCRG-TV9's studio is located at 501 2nd Ave SE, in downtown Cedar Rapids. In June of 2008, the Cedar River flooded to within half a block of TV9's studios.

As downtown shut down around us, TV9 staff worked through. Generators were brought in for power, port-a-potties brought in for restrooms and ID cards shown to get past National Guard checkpoints.

Below are some behind the scenes photos taken June 13th, 2008, when a flood related power outage forced TV9's crew to move the set to 2nd Ave in order to continue non-stop coverage.

We were very fortunate to only have minimal damage to our building and to be able to work through the Flood of 2008. Our thoughts are with those impacted by the flood and their rebuilding efforts.
