Giuliani: "Don't Blame Foreign Policy"
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani told voters in Iowa Wednesday, that current US foreign policy is not the cause of the Islamic terror threat facing the country.
Stumping in Cedar Rapids after the final Republican debate, Giuliani responded to an audience member who asked him whether or not US decisions around the world have caused negative attitudes. Giuliani told the audience that the root causes of terrorism were associated more with a “perversion” of religion and the philosphy of leaders like Ayatollah Khomeini. Trade and effective use of the military would be the key to peace, according to Giuliani. The debate earlier in the day failed to generate discussion on foreign policy issues, but rather, focused on issues of the economy and education. Pegging his campaign on his leadership during and after 9/11, Giuliani has frequently asserted his belief that American foreign policy did not cause 9/11, nor is it responible for the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. The former mayor attacked Texas Congressman Ron Paul during an early debate in South Carolina, where Paul voiced his belief that American policy has directly contributed to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Giuliani asked Paul to retract his statements, to which Paul did not oblige. More Good Stuff |
