John Stossel Takes on Ron Paul

ABC’s John Stossel quizzed Texas Congressman Ron Paul Friday on 20/20, on a variety of issues including limiting federal government, foreign policy and Paul’s idea of what America ought to be.

As a long shot candidate, the interview marks one of Paul’s first major appearances on network television as the election season switches into high gear.

A grassroots Internet following has brought Paul to the media’s attention and though he may not yet be a household name, anyone surfing the web within the past few months has likely come across him.

Paul explained his opposition to US interventionism, the growth of the federal government and what he feels are intrusive social policies that punish things like drugs and prostitution.

Though a far cry from the platforms of his conservative opponents, Paul does try to infuse historical context into his arguments and still remains the only Republican candidate pledging immediate withdrawal from Iraq.

The latest polls show Paul has yet to break into the mainstream voting circles much the way former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has in recent weeks, but supporters seem unfazed.

Campaign supporters recently announced the launch of a campaign blimp that will tour the east coast over the next few weeks—the first of its kind in a presidential race.

Still considered a long shot candidate, Paul has stated he will not run on an independent ticket if he fails to win the Republican nomination.
