Linn County Elected Officials Sworn in to Office

CEDAR RAPIDS - On Friday, the Linn County Board of Supervisors moved from a three-member to a five-member board. With this change, Linn County joins Iowa’s five other highest populated counties that also have five-member Boards of Supervisors.

Four of the five members of the Linn County Board of Supervisors were sworn into office on Friday. Lu Barron, District 1; Linda Langston, District 2; Ben Rogers, District 3; and James Houser, District 5. Supervisor Brent Oleson, District 4, was sworn into office Dec. 31 in the hospital room of Mary Lundby, a state senator from Marion who is dying of cancer.

Supervisor Lu Barron was elected by the board to serve as 2009 Chairperson. The Chairperson position will rotate each year by district. Supervisor Langston will serve as Vice Chair in 2009.

Brian Gardner was also sworn in as Linn County Sheriff at Friday morning’s ceremony. As were four deputies; Colonel John Stuelke; Major Gerald Hansel, Jr.; Major John Godar; and Major Douglas Riniker.
