State Board Certifies More Election Results

DES MOINES (AP) - The State Canvassing Board has certified election results from two more legislative races.

Secretary of State Michael Mauro joined the members of the Executive Council on Monday to certify the results from Senate District 10 and House District 1.

In Senate District 10, Democrat Jeff Danielson, the incumbent from Cedar Falls, beat Republican Walt Rogers by 22 votes.

His victory means that Democrats will have 32 seats in their chamber next session versus 18 for Republicans. Danielson has been elected by fellow Democrats as Senate president pro tem.

In House District 1, Democrat Wesley Whitead, the incumbent from Sioux City, finished 55 votes ahead of Republican Jeremy Taylor.

Two final races that have not been finalized at the county level, House Districts 8 and 37, will be certified next week.
