LINN COUNTY - The Linn County Auditor is encouraging flood victims to vote early in the general election.
Joel Miller says because of the flood, he's afraid many of those people will wait until the last minute to ask questions.
With a big turnout expected, that could mean long lines on November 4th.
Originally, he hoped 50,000 residents would submit absentee ballots before Election Day. In the 2004 election, 34,000 people voted early but Miller says we'll be lucky to even hit that at the pace things are going right now.
The other factor in voting this year is people can now register to vote on Election Day. That could also mean more people waiting until the last minute. Miller says he wants to encourage the early voting so on Election Day, people don't feel like they weren't able to vote because of long lines.
Starting October 7th, Linn County voters can cast absentee ballots in person at several locations. They are all open from noon to 6 P.M. on the dates listed below:

Maybe there is a commonality in the polling locations, but it's typically the poor who are disenfranchised by a lack of education, opportunity, resources, and access. It is a good thing to help people exercise this basic right! We're supposed to help the LEAST of our brothers, and we aren't supposed to judge others. If we are worried about HOW they will vote, then we need to reflect upon why that it is. Keep in mind that during the Clinton era, outgoing welfare payments were at 33 year low.
