Culver Facing Skeptical Democrats at Convention

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Governor Culver will face skeptics and tensions within his own party this weekend.

He'll deliver a speech at the Iowa Democratic Party's convention on Saturday.

Forces within the party are still angry about his veto of a labor-backed expansion of bargaining rights, but they want to unit as they head into the November general election.

Danny Homan is the president of Council 61 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the largest union representing state workers.

He says his group will have "a respectful response" to Culver.

Veteran Democratic consultant Jeff Link says there are tensions, but the attention has shifted to storms and flooding that have devastated Iowa.

At the convention, activists will finish selecting the state's 57 delegates to the party's national nominating convention in Denver this summer and approve a party platform.

I've been a little skeptical about Chet lately as well. Not much good happened this last session. Except more taxes and less rights.

DUH!!! You get what you vote for. Liberal Democrats = big government = more taxes = less freedom. Liberal Democrats think you can't possibly be intelligent enough to take care of yourself so lets create a goverment bureaucracy, um, I mean program, for you. Culver is arrogant and thinks everyone in Des Moines better tow the line...his.

The democrats are the party of liberals, socialists, communists, homosexuals, unions, school teachers, social workers, activists, etc. I could never understand how hard working union people could vote for more taxes but they do. It takes a lot of tax payer money to cater to a lot of special interest groups. Which democrat politician will be the next Hitler? They just started preschool for 4 year olds so they can start brain washing earlier. Government class in High School is not enough.

Thise of you you think Nussle would have been a better choice obviously do not know the person behind the politician. Whether Culver has done a good job or not I can't stand the fact that people would possibly think electing an individual who disrespected his wife, family and community by his actions after being elected to the congress. Republicans wnat to talk about morals? He has none! Also, did he do a great job at being in charge of the nat. budget committee? Hmmm.. I don't think so!!!

Both parties are responsible for this countries 9 trillion dollar debt, sky-rocketing taxes, and rapidly dwindling middle class. All the Dems and Republicans have to offer is smoke and mirrors.
