Culver Signs $25 Million Health Care Package for Uninsured

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver has signed into law a package that spends $25 million over the next three years to extend health coverage to 50,000 uninsured children.

Culver said Iowa may be the first state in the nation to insure all children.

The governor signed the bill Tuesday at a Des Moines health care clinic, where more than half the patients don't have health insurance.

Culver also signed a spending bill that supports health and human service programs.

WHAT ABOUT ADULTS THAT DON'T MAKE ENOUGH TO PAY COMPANY SPONSORED INSURANCE PLANS??? I'M TALKING ABOUT THE FOLKS MAKING 10 AN HOUR AND THE COVERAGE, CRAPPY AS IT IS, COSTS ABOUT $200 A MONTH. THAT'S ABOUT HALF THEIR INCOME BEFORE TAXES, HOW DO THEY EAT?

$200 a month that is cheap insurance! I wish my plan was just $200 a month instead of $200 each pay check:)

Will this bill also cover illegal immigrants children? I bet it will. Its just more of our tax money being thrown away. The problem is not health insurance. Its the cost of health care that the US has allowed to get way out of control.

For some like us, we own our own business putting food on everyone's plate. We are farmers with no insurance. We have 2 children born without any insurance. everything out of pocket! I am appreciative of this coverage they are willing to give. We easily could have taken out Title 19 o either one of children, but we didn't. All of our hard earned money goes back into the farm that feeds Americans. Way to go Culver!!!!
