Iowa Superdelegate Commits to Obama

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Another Iowa superdelegate is supporting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Richard Machacek of Winthrop said Tuesday that both Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are strong candidates. He decided to support to Obama after the Illinois senator's strong showing Saturday in Iowa's district conventions.

Machacek is a member of the Democratic National Committee and previously endorsed former Sen. John Edwards, who dropped out of the race. Machacek says Obama's platform appeals to former Edwards supporters.

Because the Democratic race is so close, the party's nearly 800 elected and party officials dubbed superdelegates will likely decide who gains the nomination.

Sorry to hear he'll probably be throwing his vote away, then.

Better to "throw away" your vote than support a candidate who doesn't deserve the support.

Superdelegates will likely decide who gains the nomination. Are you kidding me? Welcome to the big brother society where the popular vote is a mere formality. It's people with connections who will decide who becomes elected.
