Governor Announces Board, Commission Appointees

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Governor Culver has announced the names of 186 Iowans who will serve on state boards and commissions.

Culver says the nominees come from all walks of life and every corner of the state.

One notable name missing from the long list of appointees was Des Moines civil rights leader Mary Ann Spicer, a Republican. Since 2000, she has worked on the state's Employment Appeal Board.

The position, which pays $75,000 a year, now goes to Monique Kuester of Urbandale, also a Republican.

Spicer, whose term officially expires on April 30th, was notified last week that the governor would not recommend her for reappointment.

Spicer told The Des Moines Register that she wasn't given a reason why she wasn't reappointed.
