Edwards and Giuliani Drop Presidential Bids

Just six days before Super Tuesday, two prominent candidates have dropped out of the presidential races, democrat John Edwards and republican Rudy Giuliani.

Wednesday afternoon, Edwards announced he's suspending his campaign. His best finish was second place in the Iowa caucuses. His biggest disappointment might have been finishing third in South Carolina. Edwards says although he's stepping aside, he'll continue to help his party.

"We will be strong. We will be unified. And with our convictions and a little backbone, we will take back the White House in November and bring hope and opportunity for this country," said Edwards.

So far, Edwards has not endorsed either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, but he did talk to both of them on Wednesday. He urged them to carry on his fight against poverty if they win the election.

And republican Rudy Giuliani is ending his bid for the White House as well. The former New York mayor had been the national front runner for much of 2007. But he decided to focus his campaign on Florida rather than compete in early states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. After finishing a distant third in the Florida primary Tuesday night, Giuliani is throwing his support behind John McCain.
