Hundreds Wear Pink For Lyric And Elizabeth

WATERLOO, Iowa - Pink flooded the Young Arena in Waterloo on Friday night as hundreds of people honored Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins. Eastern Iowans are still struggling with the news that authorities believe the two bodies found in Bremer County are those of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins. The two disappeared July 13th from Evansdale and hunters found two bodies on Wednesday.

The event at the Waterloo Black Hawks game was scheduled weeks ago and was meant to raise awareness of their disappearance. After this week’s news, organizers used the event to honor the girls and continue to raise awareness and money for the reward fund. "We understand there is very little we can do to help the families get through it, it's a grieving process and i think this shows the community has bound together and they are one family," said Doug Miller, President of the Waterloo Black Hawks.

Players took the ice wearing heart shaped stickers on their helmets with an E and L in the middle. Only one member of the team is from the Waterloo area but they've all grown to care about the two girls someone took away nearly five months ago. " They've been right with it through the entire ordeal they know what's going on and its touched them and moved them," said Miller.

The two cousins names and faces were on the bracelets and T-shirts of those filling the stands. The normally rowdy pre-game arena, took a moment of silence before the game started. "Everybody has the girls in their hearts still and it's nice to see everybody come together and wear their pink and show support," said Sarah Curl, of Waterloo.

On Friday many also noted the importance of continuing to build a reward fund so the person or people responsible pays for what they've done. "If that reward money can be the catalyst for that happening I think it's important for us to keep collecting donations and keeping the word out about it," said Sara Kipp, of Waterloo.

The state medical examiner's office is still examining the bodies. It could be weeks before autopsy results confirm the identities of the remains but authorities say they are confident they are those of Collins and Cook.

A reward of $150,000 has been established for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
