Teenager Shot in the Head, Police Looking for Gunman
DES MOINES, Iowa - A teen was shot while walking along a Des Moines street on Tuesday afternoon.
Rescue crews were called to 19th Street and Forest Avenue around 4:38 p.m. Police said Andrew Scruggs, 17, was walking along the street with a group of friends when he was shot in the head.
Police said a light-colored vehicle traveling eastbound had caught the group's attention, and Scruggs walked into the street to talk with those inside. That's when shots were fired and Scruggs was hit.
Scruggs was conscious at the scene and was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition late Tuesday.
Police said they don't believe the incident was random. Detectives are interviewing witnesses to help identify the shooter.
Anyone with information is urged to call Des Moines police at 515-283-4869.
