Crash Sends Five To The Hospital

A crash on Blairs Ferry Road at Interstate 380 sent five people to the hospital Friday morning.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman said at 7:30 a.m. Friday a Range Rover driven by 20-year-old Martise Thomas exited Interstate 380 northbound and attempted to turn west onto Blairs Ferry Road. Buelow said Thomas ran through a red light and collided with a Toyota RAV4 that was eastbound on Blairs Ferry Road. The collision sent the Range Rover to its side.
Buelow said initial reports indicated the Range Rover was on fire, but that was never confirmed by emergency responders.
The Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha police and fire departments, Hiawatha Ambulance Service, Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Area Ambulance Service all responded to the call.
Martise, his three passengers and the driver of the RAV4 were all taken to area hospitals to receive treatment for minor injuries, Buelow said. Martise will be cited for no insurance and failure to obey a traffic control device.
