IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Andy Peterson, associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Iowa Medical Center, published the largest study of youth football ever conducted last February and is concerned people took the wrong spin on the study's statistics.
"The most important take home is that the injury rates are low in both flag and tackle leagues. A lot of what you read online or other reviews of the study in the media have been about how flag football is just as dangerous as tackle and I think that's the wrong spin on it." he says. "The spin on this is that tackle is just as safe as flag football at least in these younger grades.
