CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Two major basketball events in the state of Iowa will no longer be around in the future. On Thursday, it was announced the Prime Time League has been cancelled and this year's Hy-Vee Classic will be the final one.
The Prime Time League, which was scheduled to start next Wednesday, ends after a 31-year run.
Also on Thursday, Iowa announced that it will end its participation in the Hy-Vee Classic in Des Moines. The one-day event featured all Division I men's basketball teams in Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake.
Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta said in a statement that the 20-game Big Ten schedule would make it difficult to continue the event.
"The addition of two conference games is good for our fans, the Big Ten Conference and our strength of schedule, but unfortunately it created some scheduling challenges that impacts this event," said Barta.
