Youth Off Road Riders Program in Iowa City given new racing bikes

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- An Iowa City cycling shop has donated seven brand new bikes to kids who wouldn't otherwise get them.

Geoff's Bike and Ski donated them to the Youth Off Road Riders Program. The program aims to create an environment for young people to make friends, find role models, and learn new skills through mountain biking. The shop's owner says this is his way of giving back to the community.

"With these guys all being together, participating together, it's a really cool way to bond and get into cycling and it's a life sport, you know, you can ride your bike for the rest of your life" said Geoff Perrill, owner of Geoff's Bike and Ski in Iowa City.

Kids compete in mountain bike racing throughout the state. Last year, the kids had to rent the bikes.
