Showers overnight, then a windy Thursday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - This weather system is looking even more like one that’ll be mainly rain, rather than snow. Scattered showers break out south of Interstate 80 closer to sunset on Wednesday. Most of the rain will happen during the overnight hours Wednesday night and will wrap up around the morning drive on Thursday. As it ends, a period of light snow is possible. However, even where snow does fall, it shouldn’t amount to anything more than a coating, if that. Rainfall amounts will generally be a quarter-inch or less.

Winds will gradually increase Wednesday night. They’ll be strongest during the day on Thursday, coming in from the northwest at 15 to 30 mph. Some gusts above 30 mph are possible. The gusty winds will drop back down Thursday evening.
