CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - The end of the cold air is in sight, but it’s not quite here yet. Lows Saturday morning will be in the teens below zero. Fortunately, the wind will be quite light so brutally cold wind chills won’t be a factor. However, temperatures in the neighborhood of -15 are still dangerously cold, even without a strong breeze.
Temperatures will climb to around 10 Saturday afternoon. After a brief dip in the evening, they’ll rise through the night. As they do so, the moisture in the air will also increase. Since the pavement is so cold, this may lead to frost on area roads by Sunday morning. Be aware of some icy patches, especially on bridges and untreated roads.
By afternoon, a light wintry mix should develop. Freezing drizzle looks like the most likely situation as of now, with perhaps some sleet or light rain mixing in every so often. This should switch over to some snow Sunday night as it all wraps up, and little to no accumulation is expected. Even though precipitation should be light, some slick roads and sidewalks are certainly possible.
