CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - We are staring into the eyes of a blocking pattern in eastern Iowa over the next few days. What does that mean? For starters, there’ll be little change in the weather. In fact, it’s not much change of any kind, going right down to the wind speed each day. Lows each night will be down into the 50s, with highs each afternoon in the lower 80s.
The blocking is caused by an area of high pressure to our north that will push south and park over eastern Iowa. It’ll serve to not just keep us dry, but keep the summer heat at bay. There have been record highs within that hot airmass to our south.
This pattern looks to break down temporarily this weekend as a cold front moves through.
