CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- It's time to vote for our KCRG-TV9 Student of the Month for January.
Dania Al-Awneh is a senior at Liberty High School in North Liberty. The 18-year-old moved to Iowa from Jordan two years ago and is thriving in the classroom. In those two years, she learned English and has adapted well to American life. Al-Awneh is a teacher's assistant and also volunteers at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Guilia Carbone Barbosa is in third grade at Starmont Elementary School. The 8-year-old excels in reading and plays several sports including flag football, gymnastics, softball and basketball. When she saw the destruction from last year's hurricanes, Carbone Barbosa donated her birthday money to storm victims to help them recover.
15-year-old Emma Johnson is a sophomore at Belle Plaine High School. She has a strong work ethic in the classroom and extracurricular activities and always pushes herself to be better. Johnson is a cheerleader for the wrestling team and also participates on the high school dance team and student council. She also volunteers for Belle Plaine Community Development and spends time with seniors at a nursing home.
