Eastern Iowa couple planning a firefighter themed wedding

ATKINS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Jamie Strait and Dan Ginter met while volunteering for the Anamosa Fire Department three years ago. Ginter explains, "We'd show up together on calls or meetings and got to realizing every time we were around each other we kept talking for longer and longer and longer."

Sparks eventually flew, and Ginter finally asked Strait out on a date. He says, "I was talking about my son one time and how he wanted to ask a girl out, and I was like I might as well as Jamie too while I'm at it."

It didn't take long before they decided to get married. It will be Firefighter themed, and will be held at the Anamosa Fire Station. It's scheduled for October 20th 2018.

Strait says of the date, "10-20 is a 10 code through the fire department, and it means what's your location?"

Strait got her dress from Hope's Bridal Boutique in Atkins. They're giving discounts to first responders and the military through the end of the July.

Owner Diane Niebuhr says, "Mark and I were never in the service, we didn't have the opportunity, we weren't ever called up. It's a small thing we can do to give back. It's a little bit of a savings on a special day."

Ginter says the flame he has with Strait will never burn out. He says, "She is the strongest person I've ever met. She is a widow and despite that she raised three daughters on her own that are miniature versions of herself."

Strait adds, "He makes me laugh, and he treats my children like they're his own." The couple currently lives in Onslow and volunteers for the city’s fire department.
