Trump 'needs to be neutralized,' says board member's post

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa school board member has resigned after posting online that President Donald Trump "needs to be neutralized."

Knoxville radio station KNIA reports that Mike Helle (HEHL-EE) also said in Wednesday's now-deleted social media post that, "Trump needs to take in a show at Ford's Theater," a reference to where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Helle quit the Knoxville school board Thursday night.

He told the station he quit because he didn't "want to be a distraction" and that people should be careful of what they post online, because comments can be taken out of context.

Helle's phone rang busy during several calls Friday from The Associated Press, and he didn't respond immediately to a Facebook message.

Secret Service spokesman John Gutsmiedl said he couldn't comment.
