Temperatures fall below zero Saturday night

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Clear skies and light winds tonight will be perfect conditions for temperatures to drop below zero across most of the TV9 viewing area. Sunday will start off with sunshine, but clouds will move in for the afternoon as high pressure starts to move off to our east. Winds will also start to pick up out of the south.

Our weather turns more active as we start the workweek. Light snow or wintry mix will be possible on Monday, with those chances ramping up Monday night and Tuesday. On Tuesday, temperatures are expected warm enough for most of the precipitation to fall as rain, with the exception areas north of Highway 20. A brief transition back to snow could occur later on Tuesday as the system moves away.

The rest of the week looks active with chances for wintry weather on Thursday, and again next weekend as temperatures stay near mid-January averages.
