CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - KCRG-TV9 announced three finalists for its Student of the Month for September. The winner will be featured in a story on the KCRG-TV9 Morning News at the end of the month.
The first finalist is Emily Halverson, a senior at Iowa City West High School. The 17-year-old is the co-captain of the volleyball team with a class load that includes college courses. She rearranged her senior schedule so she could continue volunteering at the Coralville Food Pantry.
Mercedez Fay is the next finalist. She's also a senior from Cedar Rapids Washington High School. At 17, she's already received her CNA, (Certified Nursing Assistant) license and is working on her RN. She strives to go above and beyond in everything she does.
The last finalist of the month is 14-year-old Holly Rubin. She's a freshman at Oelwein High School. She has a busy schedule that includes band, choir, swimming and community theatre. She's also a Grand Representative for the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.
Voting for September's Student of the Month ends Friday, September 9.
