Student of the Month: January Finalists

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - KCRG-TV9 announced three finalists for its Student of the Month for January. The winner will be featured in a story on the KCRG-TV9 Morning News at the end of the month.

Up first we have Linn-Mar Senior Jennifer Jenks. The 17-year-old is a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, an AP Scholar, National Honor Society Member, and also belongs to the National Council on Youth Leadership. Jenks is director of Iowa's first high school writing center, playing a huge role in organizing tutor committees and designing the center's website.

Next we have Lone Tree High's Javonte Squiers. The 17-year-old senior balances his athletic and academic careers with commitment. He's received multiple all conference and all state honors in basketball, football, and track while maintaining a 3.6 grade average. He also serves as the drum line leader in the marching band, while also participating in choir.

The last finalist is 18-year-old Jacquelyn Nielson, she's a senior at Iowa City West. Jacquelyn maintains a 4.0 grade average while taking AP and honors courses. She belongs to the National Honor Society and was recently awarded a Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist. Outside the classroom she serves on the Executive Board of the Iowa West High Dance Marathon--an event she's participated in for 3 years.
