DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- While some people view radio as a dying medium, Loras College student Xavier Sanchez sees it as one with possibility.

The school's radio station, KLCR, has been around for decades, but participation has been declining in recent years.

For the past two years, the station was silent.

Sanchez says he's always loved radio and wanted a new way to be involved at the school.

He believes students will enjoy having a radio station back on campus with many ways to listen.

"Now there's other ways to listen to the radio, you don't have to have a radio on your desk. You can just click your computer and log on and it's right there, you don't have the extra equipment," he said.

He says about 15 students are interested in hosting their own shows.

Programming will cover sports, politics, Top 40 music and more.

Students will be able to stream the shows, as well as listen on a traditional radio.
