Physicians Clinic of Iowa (PCI) announced plans for a possible second facility in the Medical Quarter district of Cedar Rapids on Thursday.

The announcement was called “exploratory” and the release from PCI says the medical group is gauging interest from new providers in a second large building before committing to construction.

If built, the addition would go up on land already owned by the medical group between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue S.E.

One idea is the new pavilion would have a “wellness” theme and might feature providers involved in wellness and even sports medicine fields.

The new structure would connect to the original PCI building through a skywalk to an existing parking structure.

The plan also calls for a new 500-car parking garage to the south of the original PCI building. The announcement did not say when PCI would expect to begin work on the expansion.
