DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) Kids in Dubuque are performing The Little Mermaid this weekend thanks to community support.

Elizabeth Kelsey as Ariel and Jacob Nuti as Prince Eric in The Rising Star Theatre Compan's production of The Little Mermaid.

Rising Star Theatre Company is putting on the musical at the Five Flags Center.

The two casts include more than 200 kids in second through twelfth grade.

Artistic Director Nicholas Halder says they receive so much support from the community to make their productions possible.

They receive grants from the McDonough Foundation, the City of Dubuque, Mediacom and more.

Actress Elizabeth Kelsey thanks everyone who makes doing what she loves a reality.

She said, "It's really helped me to hone those skills of working together and communication obviously because you're given lines and you have to work with them and you have to develop a character with that."

Halder says they also receive a lot of support from people donating their time and materials that can be used for costumes or sets.

You can catch one more performance of The Little Mermaid on Sunday, August 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.
